Sleepdreams is a group of paediatric health care professionals trained and experienced specifically in sleep for infants and children. Sleepdreams is founded by Jennifer Garden, mother of twins and an Occupational Therapist (OT) registered in BC & Alberta. She is also a university instructor who has presented at several national conferences on sleep and is actively involved with a sleep research team in Vancouver. Her teaching skills and ability to mentor other occupational therapists in the specialty of sleep has created an unsurpassed team of professional sleep consultants.
Jennifer has worked professionally in paediatrics since 1996 and has run her own private practice since 2001. Jennifer’s educational credentials include an undergraduate degree in Human Kinetics at the University of British Columbia, a Master of Clinical Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Western, Ontario, and a Master of Science at the University of British Columbia. She has also taken course credits as a breast feeding counsellor, sensory processing and parenting philosophies.
In 2008 Jennifer realized a need for research based paediatric health care professionals in sleep. A need for every day families and parents that are coping with children who may be having a hard time getting to and staying asleep. Research shows that 25-30 percent of infants and children in Canada are not getting enough sleep. Jennifer founded Sleepdreams Inc. and carefully selected and personally trained paediatric OT’s in her programs.
Sleepdreams offers seminars for expecting parents and parents of newborns to preschool aged children. Seminars usually last an hour and half to two hours and cover a range of topics including research on sleep, age appropriate sleep and sleep strategies for tired infants and children.
Sleepdreams professional sleep consultants conduct in-home consultations. Here they perform paediatric assessments to help identify calming strategies to integrate into a custom sleep plan. By meeting and interviewing the parents they are able to set out strategies that work in harmony with the parents’ goals and values. The OT provides a detailed report including a sleep plan and telephone follow up.
Sleepdreams consultants draw upon years of experience working clinically both in hospital and community setting with infants and children in areas of sleep, feeding, swallowing, sensory processing, language development, toileting, motor skills and development, as well as recognition of mental and physical milestones. Through continued university research, education and clinical paediatric practice specializing in sleep, Sleepdreams’ professional sleep consultants provide results for tired parents and their children. A client centred approach is at the heart of every occupational therapist. This means they listen to your needs and wants and working together with you and your child they develop successful strategies to help you all get the rest you need.
Best of all, as registered occupational therapists, Sleepdreams consultation services are often covered by extended health care plans and are otherwise income tax deductible.
We are very excited to have Jennifer speak at our workshop on February 8th at Kinder Cafe. For more information on Sleepdreams you can visit their website http://www.sleepdreams.ca/ and to register for our workshop you can visit http://beyondthebump.eventbrite.com/
