Last night I watched the pilot for Up All Night, a new show on NBC starring Christina Applegate, Will Arnett and Maya Rudolph from SNL. (I had PVR’d it, it airs Wednesdays) The show is about Reagan (Christina Applegate) returning to work as an Talk Show Producer and her husband (Will Arnett) is now a stay at home dad. They used to be quite the party animals so it’s a big change for them to be settling down and caring for a baby. Maya Rudolph plays the hilarious, over the top talk show host. The show is written by SNL writer Emily Spivey so you know the humour is going to be great and that alone is a main reason I wanted to watch the show besides how relatable the show is to me, as my partner is a Firefighter and is often home with the baby. The pilot takes us from them finding out she is pregnant to her first week back at work. I really like the story line and the characters are great! It’s something new and not the familiar “family” comedy... it’s still has that SNL spin without being TOO much. I found myself laughing out loud in a few moments and looking at Shane, my partner, and smiling, especially when they were arguing about who had woke up more with the baby, worked more during the day and who was the MOST tired. Hopefully this is a show that sticks around because I see great potential and would definitely set my PVR!
